While many networks let you use your allowances abroad at no extra cost, not all do, and to further complicate matters, the situation is sometimes different on Pay As You Go to what it is with a SIM Only or handset contract.

O2’s Pay As You Go plans all come with inclusive roaming in 48 European destinations, up to a fair usage limit of 25GB per month (or however much is in your plan if your plan has less data than that).

Three

Three lets Pay As You Go customers roam in 71 destinations covering Europe and beyond, including the likes of the US, Australia, and Brazil. The total list encompasses both Three’s 49 ‘Go Roam in Europe’ locations and its 22 ‘Go Roam Around the World’ destinations.

However, there is of course a fair use limit and this varies depending on what Pay As You Go pack you have. At the time of writing, it ranges from 6GB per month (with a 40GB or 60GB pack) to 30GB (with an unlimited data pack).

Lyca Mobile

Lyca Mobile has some Pay As You Go SIM deals and these all come with inclusive roaming across 30 destinations in the EU, with some additionally offering free roaming in China and/or India, so if you care about those locations, check whether they’re included in the plan you’re buying.

Fair use limits also vary from plan to plan, but they range from 5GB to 35GB for Europe and India. Note also that in most cases the roaming limit in China will be lower than elsewhere, but this also varies from plan to plan, so make sure to read the details of your plan before buying or travelling.

With Tesco Mobile, your Pay As You Go plan lets you roam across 48 European destinations at no extra cost.

Unlike most networks, Tesco Mobile doesn’t apply any strict fair use data limits either, it simply requires you to spend more time in the UK than abroad and use more data in the UK than abroad.

It monitors use over a rolling 4-month period, so if your inclusive roaming use exceeds a two-month duration over that period, you will have exceeded the fair use limits.
