Sky Mobile’s SIM Only deals all last 12 months, but they give you far more flexibility than 12-month plans on most networks, as you’re free to change your allowances every month. So if you ever find you need more or less data than your current plan allows, you’re able to switch.
Sky Mobile’s plans also all include data rollover (other than its unlimited data plan, which doesn’t need rollover), so if you don’t use all of your data one month, it will roll over to the next. In fact, it will roll over for up to 12 months, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to use it.
You also get unlimited minutes and texts on all Sky Mobile SIM Only plans, plus the promise of no mid-contract price rises.
Beyond that, tethering, Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling, and 5G are all supported, and you can roam abroad for a low daily charge.
Sky Mobile has a lot going for it as a network, including the fact that it shares O2’s coverage, so it has 4G and 5G coverage in all the same places. That means roughly 99% population coverage with 4G, as well as over 3,200 towns and cities with 5G, which amounts to roughly 65% of the UK population outdoors.
You should be able to get a signal almost everywhere in the UK then. As for speeds, O2’s median 5G download speed is 79.7Mbps according to a 2024 RootMetrics report, while its average 5G download speed is 80.1Mbps according to a September 2024 Opensignal report, which also found that when using a combination of 5G, 4G, and 3G, O2’s average download speed was 23.1Mbps, and its average upload speed was 5.3Mbps.
These reports didn’t include Sky Mobile, but its speeds are likely to be similar since it uses O2’s infrastructure.
There has been a report done into Sky Mobile’s customer service though, with Ofcom in 2023 finding that 88% of customers were satisfied with Sky Mobile’s service overall, that 79% were satisfied with the network’s signal, that 14% had a reason to complain, and that 54% were satisfied with the way their complaint was handled.
Those results are all roughly average, but it also found that just 5 of every 100,000 customers complained about Sky Mobile to Ofcom, with the industry average being 8. Average call waiting times were a lot lower than the industry average too, at 1 minute and 51 seconds.
Yes, you can roam abroad with Sky Mobile. You’ll be charged £2 per day to use your allowances in 55 popular holiday destinations, including the US, France, Canada, Australia, Spain, and many other places.
When applying for a SIM Only plan, Sky Mobile will carry out an identity check, which is sometimes known as a soft credit check. However, at the time of writing it won’t carry out hard credit checks on SIM plans. If you’re looking for no credit checks at all, check out our guide covering who offers SIM Only deals with no credit check.
Yes, you can keep your number when switching to Sky Mobile. To do this, just order a Sky Mobile SIM Only deal, and while you’re waiting for it to arrive, text the word ‘PAC’ to 65075 from the number you want to keep.
You’ll be sent a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) in response, which – once you’ve activated your new Sky Mobile SIM card – you can give to Sky Mobile to get them to port your number. Just fill in Sky Mobile’s number transfer form to do this.
Yes, you can get unlimited data on Sky Mobile, so you never need to worry about data limits again.
