Smarty is one of the best SIM Only networks if you’re looking for excellent value, as its plans are all very affordable, and for the most part are among the cheapest you’ll find on any UK network.
Smarty’s SIM Only deals are also all just 30 days long, so you’re not tied into a contract. That gives you the flexibility to change to a different plan at almost any time if you find that you need more or less data, or to cancel if you find a better SIM Only deal elsewhere. The lack of a long-term contract means there are also no annual price rises, and no credit checks.
Plus, all of Smarty’s SIM Only plans come with unlimited minutes and texts, as well as 5G, the ability to tether, Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling, and free roaming in the EU.
Smarty also offers group plans, which give you a 10% discount on every SIM, and you can get Data Discount plans, which refund you for any unused data.
Smarty is a very good network, because aside from its impressively low prices, it also runs on Three’s network (in fact it’s owned by Three) so its speeds and coverage should be the same.
That means there’s over 99% UK population coverage with 4G and over 60% outdoor coverage with 5G, which are both competitive figures.
Three’s speeds on 5G also tend to be among the highest of any network. For example, in a September 2024 Opensignal report, Three’s average 5G download speed was found to be 208.9Mbps – that’s higher than EE’s, Vodafone’s, or O2’s average 5G speeds in this test.
Similarly, Three’s median 5G download speed was found to be higher than rivals in a RootMetrics report from 2024. Since Smarty uses Three’s infrastructure and is owned by Three, its speeds are likely to be similarly high.
Customers also think highly of Smarty, as the network currently has a 4.0 rating out of 5 on Trustpilot. That’s considered ‘great’, and is based on over 39,000 ratings.
Yes, all SIM Only plans on Smarty include free roaming in the EU, so you can use your allowances in Europe at no extra cost, up to a fair usage limit of 12GB for data.
Smarty won’t credit check you, so it’s a great choice if you have a poor credit rating or just don’t want a credit search on your file. For other no credit check options, check out our guide covering who offers SIM Only deals with no credit check.
Keeping your number when switching to Smarty is easy, and the first step is to request a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) from your old network. The simplest way to do this is just to text the word ‘PAC’ to 65075 from the number you want to keep.
Once you have your PAC code, order the Smarty SIM Only plan you’re interested in, and during checkout you’ll be asked whether you want to bring your old number to Smarty.
Say that you do, and then just enter your old number and your PAC code, and Smarty will handle the rest.
If you ordered your Smarty plan before getting a PAC code though you can still transfer your number later, by following the steps in the ‘Your phone number’ section of your account on the Smarty app or website. Just make sure you haven’t already closed your account with your old network, otherwise you might miss the chance to transfer your number.
Yes, Smarty offers SIM Only deals with unlimited data, and there are no fair usage limits in the UK, so this data really is unlimited – though there’s a 12GB monthly limit when using your data abroad.
