How does Tesco Mobile SIM-Only stand out?

Tesco Mobile stands out largely by having good 4G coverage and often lower prices than major networks. It uses O2’s infrastructure, which means it currently has 4G coverage for over 97% of the UK population outdoors, and that figure is growing.

Tesco Mobile SIM-Only plans

Tesco Mobile offers a range of SIM Only tariffs, with between 100MB and 20GB of data, along with between 250 and 5000 minutes. All SIM Only plans also come with 5000 text messages.

Tesco Mobile’s SIM Only plans are also available in either 12-month or 30-day durations, so you have some choice, and if you opt for the latter you’re on a very flexible tariff.

What else do you get with Tesco Mobile SIM-Only?

Tesco Mobile is light on extras because it’s focused on saving you money, however the network does offer its customers a Tesco Mobile Xtras app with exactly that in mind. Using this lets you knock £3 off your bill each month by viewing adverts and offers when you unlock your phone.

Tesco Mobile also lets you cap your monthly spend, so you’ll never spend more than you plan each month.

Can you roam abroad?

Yes. Tesco Mobile lets you use your allowances of minutes, texts and data at no extra cost in:

Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guyana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, St. Martin, St. Barts, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City.

The only restriction is that you can’t use more than 12GB of data when roaming.

Can you tether?

Yes. Tesco Mobile lets you use as much of your data allowance as you want for tethering, meaning you can get tablets, laptops and other devices online by sharing your smartphone’s data.

How do I keep my number?

To keep your number, first order a Tesco Mobile SIM Only deal, then call your old network and request your PAC code.

Once your Tesco Mobile SIM has arrived and been activated, text the word ‘PORT’ to 23424 using your Tesco Mobile SIM card. You’ll get a text in reply asking for the number you want to keep, and another asking for your PAC code. Provide the requested information and within 24 hours you’ll get a text to the number you want to keep telling you when the number will be transferred.

What SIM card size do I need?

Tesco Mobile will send you a Tri-SIM, which contains all three SIM card sizes in one, meaning you don’t need to know which size you need before placing your SIM Only order.

Once it arrives, you can work out which size you need either by comparing the sizes to your old SIM card, or searching online for which size your phone takes. Then simply pop out the size you need.

If in doubt, know that most recent phones use nano SIM cards, which are the smallest size. If your phone is more than a few years old it may use a micro SIM, which is slightly larger, and for very old phones a standard SIM card is likely to be used. These are the biggest ones.
