How does O2 SIM-Only stand out?

O2 has widespread 4G coverage, currently accounting for over 99% of the UK population. That means you’ll get 4G in most places, and coverage is improving all the time. Plus, O2 has rapidly growing 5G coverage.

The network also provides all sorts of extras, such as 4G Calling, Wi-Fi Calling, extensive free roaming, and access to O2 Priority.

O2 SIM-Only Plans

O2’s SIM Only plans come with between 1GB and unlimited monthly data, so there’s a lot of choice. Most plans also include unlimited texts and minutes.

O2 also has a choice of 30-day, 12-month or 24-month SIM Only plans, so they can be short-term or you can sign up for longer and save some money in the process.

What else do you get with O2 SIM-Only?

O2 Priority gives O2 customers access to a wide and regularly changed selection of freebies, discounts and competitions. It also offers tickets to gigs and other events before they go on general sale, so you’ll never miss out.

O2 also has a network of over 16,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, and while anyone can access these, O2 customers get automatic access to 7,000 of them, without the need to register.

Can you roam abroad?

Yes. All O2 SIM Only plans let you roam abroad at no extra cost in the following 48 locations:

Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion Islands, Romania, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Martin, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Vatican City.

Select plans also let you roam for free in 27 additional destinations (for 75 in total) with 120 minutes, 120 texts and unlimited data. The additional places are as follows: Argentina, Australia, Botswana, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Greenland, Guatemala, Guinea, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Rwanda, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yemen.

If you’re not on one of these extended roaming plans or you want to go somewhere not covered by it, then for £4.99 per day you can get unlimited data, 120 minutes and 120 texts in a variety of other places too.

Can you tether?

Yes. O2 allows you to use as much of your data as you want each month for tethering, so you can easily get laptops, tablets and other devices online using your smartphone’s connection.

How do I keep my number?

Once you’ve signed up for a new O2 SIM Only contract just text 'PAC' (from your old number) to 65075, or alternatively call up your old network and ask for you PAC code.

Then, once your new O2 SIM is activated you can fill in O2’s ‘keep my number’ form. If you send the form by 5pm on a working day then your number transfer will be completed the next working day. If it’s sent after 5pm (or not on a working day) it will be transferred within two working days.

What SIM card size do I need?

O2 will send you a multi SIM, which is one with all three SIM card sizes included, so you don’t need to know which SIM card size your phone takes before you place an order.

Once you get your multi SIM, if you’re not sure which size you need just compare it to your old SIM, or Google your handset’s SIM size, then pop out the correct size.

Generally speaking, if you have a remotely recent phone it will probably use a nano SIM, which is the smallest size. Older phones usually use a larger micro SIM and very old ones will probably use a standard SIM, which is the biggest of the three.
