Sometimes it can be hard to truly get your money’s worth with SIM Only deals. After all, when picking allowances you’ll typically want to choose a plan with more data than you actually need, so that you don’t risk running out.
This essentially means you’re paying for data that you don’t use most months, but it doesn’t have to be that way, as some networks offer SIM Only deals with data rollover.
This isn’t a common feature of mobile networks, so it’s a major selling point for those that do offer it, and below we’ve highlighted the networks that offer SIM Only deals with data rollover.
Asda Mobile’s SIM Only plans all include data rollover (other than its unlimited data plans, since it wouldn’t make a difference to those).
Any data left over from your allowance at the end of one billing cycle will be rolled over to the next, giving you a second chance to use it. If you don’t use it during this second month then it will still be lost, but rolled over data is used before your standard data allowance, so you’re likely to get through it.
As an example, if you have a 10GB plan and roll over 2GB, then you’ll have 12GB available the following month. If somehow you only use 1GB that month, then the second gigabyte you rolled over will be lost, but your entire 10GB standard allowance will be rolled over, giving you 20GB the following month.
These plans are available in both 12 and 24-month durations, and they also include unlimited minutes and texts. And Asda Mobile is partnered with Vodafone, so it’s Vodafone’s coverage that you’ll receive.
iD Mobile also offers data rollover as standard on all of its SIM Only deals (other than unlimited data plans), and you can get these plans on a 1-month, 12-month, or 24-month contract.
As with Asda Mobile, you’ll get one additional month to use any leftover data, and this rolled over data will be used before your standard monthly data allowance.
iD Mobile’s SIM Only deals also all include unlimited minutes and texts, and iD Mobile runs on Three’s network.
Sky Mobile’s SIM Only deals are arguably the best for data rollover, because they come with a full year of data rollover. That means you have 12 whole months to make use of any initially unused data before it expires, where other networks only give you one extra month.
It works a bit differently to other networks though, as unused data is added to your ‘Sky Piggybank’, and from there you can choose to redeem it in 1GB increments.
And if you don’t think you’ll be able to make use of the banked data, you can instead share it with other SIMs on your account, or trade it for rewards or money off a new device or accessory.
If there’s a downside to these plans it’s that they all last 12 months, so if you want a flexible one-month rolling plan you’ll have to look elsewhere (such as with iD Mobile). That said, as well as letting you bank data, Sky Mobile also allows you to switch your plan every month – so while you can’t freely cancel for 12 months, you can adjust your allowances and monthly price if you decide your current plan isn’t right for you.
Sky Mobile’s SIM Only deals come with up to unlimited data, and they all also include unlimited minutes and texts. Coverage will be identical to O2’s.
