Vodafone is a major UK network that has been bringing connectivity to customers for decades, and through its recent merger with Three it’s becoming even bigger.

It’s also a network that – unsurprisingly – sells SIM Only plans with unlimited data, and you can get these on one, 12, or 24-month contracts, and in some cases with various extras thrown in.

So below, we’ve detailed what you’ll get with an unlimited data plan on Vodafone, and whether the data you get truly is unlimited.

Is roaming included?

That depends on your plan. While roaming doesn’t come as standard on Vodafone, there are plans that include it.

If you get a plan with ‘Euro Roam’ then you’ll be able to roam in 51 European destinations, while a plan with ‘Global Roam’ will include roaming in 83 worldwide destinations. However, there’s a 25GB fair usage limit when roaming, so you can’t use unlimited data abroad.

Are there any speed restrictions?

Vodafone’s unlimited data plans come in three different varieties, and some of them have speed limits. There are ‘Unlimited’ plans, which top out at 10Mbps, then there are ‘Unlimited Plus’ ones that max out at 100Mbps, and finally there are ‘Unlimited Max’ plans, which don’t put any limit on the maximum speed.

Are there any fair usage restrictions?

As well as potential speed limits, Vodafone’s unlimited data plans also have fair usage restrictions, with the network stating that if your use exceeds 600GB twice or more in a six-month period the network may investigate whether your use of the network is acceptable. This sort of fair use term is in line with a lot of other networks though, so Vodafone isn’t alone in this.

What other benefits are included?

Vodafone’s unlimited data plans also include unlimited minutes and texts, Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling, tethering, discounted family plans, the option of an eSIM, and access to VeryMe Rewards, which is a loyalty programme with treats, prizes, and discounts.

Additionally, some of Vodafone’s unlimited data plans come with a subscription to your choice of either Disney Plus or Amazon Prime. These plans are labelled as including ‘Entertainment’. Plus, some plans also give you 500 monthly minutes to call the EU from the UK.

And if speed is your priority, some plans give you access to Vodafone’s 5G Ultra service, which is even faster than its standard 5G, and some include ‘Speed Boost’, which means you’ll get “up to 200GB of data at your plan's maximum speed” in busy places such as festivals and sporting events – so in other words it means that your data is prioritised.

What other networks should you consider?

If you want an alternative network with the same coverage as Vodafone, then check out Asda Mobile, Lebara, Talkmobile, or VOXI.

Talkmobile and VOXI are both owned by Vodafone, with the former being a basic, low-cost alternative, and the latter focusing more on giving you endless data for use with music, video, and social media apps – though that doesn’t apply if you choose an unlimited data plan.

With Asda Mobile, you can get some of your monthly cost back in your Asda Rewards Cashpot, and with Lebara there’s a focus on international calls.
